Simone Rosenbauer's most recent photographic series, ‘Like Ice in the Clouds’ (Japan) emerged as a result of a residency near Mt. Fuji in Japan.
This body of work extends the thematic exploration initiated by her preceding series, ‘Like Ice in the Sunshine I (Australia)’ and ‘II (USA),’ this series continues to explore the transient nature of melting ice cream, utilizing natural light to capture a temporal interplay between past, present, and future.
Departing from the intense sunlight of Sydney and Los Angeles, the new series intentionally embraces cloudy light, weaving a softer, more ethereal quality into the collection. The wind occasionally intervened in the melting process, introducing unforeseen and enchanting idiosyncrasies.
The selected locations, despite their geographical distances, share a near-identical latitude, emphasizing their alignment and the parallel positioning of the sun concerning the Earth during the summertime. Each ice cream subject is framed against a backdrop of carefully chosen hues or washi paper, mirroring impressions drawn from the rich tapestry of Japanese culture and environment.
